What is it?
The iTunes media player is a multi-functional media player to play and organize all your movies and songs. You can import media currently on your computer or purchase new movies/music through the integrated iTunes store. A great new feature is the Home Sharing option, which allows you to access your music on all of the computers you own. Also, the iTunes player comes preloaded onto all Apple computers and mobile devices. If you purchased one of these devices, you will need to load the iTunes player on your computer in order to sync media onto the device.
Where do I get it?
If you purchased an newer Apple computer, the software should already be on your system. If you purchased a different brand, or if the software is not already on your computer, you will need to go online to Apple's website and download the player for free at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
How does it work?
You will need to either download music from iTunes or add music you have already loaded on to your computer into the iTunes Library. Once your music is loaded into the library, you can search, browse, play, rate, and organize everything all in one place. iTunes automatically organizes all of your music by album, artist, genre, etc. The embedded search feature allows you to search and pinpoint a specific song, album, or artist that you want to listen to.
Additional Cool Features
Genius Mixes will pull random songs based on different Genres and create a play list for you - all you have to do is select the genre you feel like listening to. The Genius feature can also be turned on while you are listening to a specific song. To do this, you will need to right-click (PC) or CTRL+click (Mac) and select "Start Genius". This will create a play list for you based on the musical qualities of the song you selected. Also, when you select a song within the program, a Genius recommendation will show up on the sidebar. This is recommendations for similar music that is available for purchase on the iTunes store.
You can choose the iTunes program to "shuffle" through songs either within your entire music library, within an album, within an artist, or within a genre. When turned on, this will randomly generate songs based on the criteria you have chosen. When you rate songs within the iTunes program, the shuffle feature will automatically pick songs you've rated higher to play first over songs you don't like as much.
Remote is a free app that will let you control the iTunes library on your computer wirelessly from your iPod touch or iPhone.
