MPEG
Audio Decoder (MAD) is developed mostly by Robert Leslie but is also a part of
the Open Source community of developers. The decoder yields 24-bit files
and based on the decoding
tests of David Robinson, produces higher quality files than 16-bit
programs. Doesn't seem like a big deal at first, but for a free program,
it gets more than the job done.
The program is distributed on site merely as source code and
unless you are a programmer, most don't have the resources to compile it.
The program can be downloaded with the frontend MADPlay (shown left).
Additional features include the ability to batch decode MP3 files.
